01/16/08 - The ASTM International standards committees for light-sport aircraft (LSA) spent two productive days discussing and refining the current standards during meetings held in Sebring, Florida, on January 14 and 15. More than 66 members of the various ASTM committees gathered just prior to Thursday’s opening of the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo to review weight-shift, powered parachute, and fixed-wing LSA standards.

Sebring, FLORIDA / February 14, 2008 - Lockwood Aircraft announced its first Exotic Destination Fly-Out, this one to the Bahamas. Air-Cam Director of Sales and Marketing, George Weber, explained, "We have assembled 14 Air-Cam owners who will fly en masse across the Atlantic from Florida's St. Lucie Int'l Airport (FPR) airport to the Marsh Harbour Airport (MYAM) in the Bahamas."

Deadline is Thursday to get materials to FAA and qualify for registration exemption
01/30/08 - The day that’s been looming for more than three years - January 31, 2008 - arrives Thursday, and with it the hard deadline for owners of two-place or “fat” ultralights to submit their aircraft registration (n-number) application for converting their aircraft to an experimental light-sport aircraft (E-LSA). Owners whose registration applications are received by the FAA by Thursday may apply for an exemption obtained by EAA last week, enabling them to schedule an airworthiness inspection through January 31, 2010.

01/23/08 - FAA’s senior staff arrived for the annual mid-winter EAA/FAA summit meeting at the EAA Aviation Center in concert with official approval of EAA’s exemption request for the transition of ultralights and two-place machines to the Experimental-Light-Sport Aircraft (E-LSA) category after the January 31 deadline.

January 4, 2008 — EAA staff experts in Oshkosh are working with members and state officials in Oregon on potential fuel availability problems that may arise for some pilots when legislation mandating a 10 percent ethanol blend for most gasoline sold in the state goes into effect this year. Governor Ted Kulongoski signed House Bill 2210 into law last year, which contains the ethanol additive provision. Implementation begins in northwestern counties January 15, 2008, with other areas of the state facing compliance by April 15 and September 16.
