LAMA AirVenture Update

Light Aircraft Manufacturers AssociationPresidents Award, GAMA & LAMA, FAA Appointment, LSA Mall, EASA

Oshkosh, WISCONSIN (AirVenture 2011) / July 25, 2011 - The Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association ( LAMA- http://www.lama.bz ) has several new updates just since Sun 'n Fun, only four months ago. This release will focus on five new developments.

"EAA's big summer celebration of flight is a wonderful venue for LAMA to update news media persons, industry partners, and enthusiasts of Light-Sport Aircraft" stated LAMA president Dan Johnson. "We are very pleased to highlight continued work by LAMA to support the light end of aviation, where most new pilots will enter. "

LAMA is pleased to inform media of recent announcements or developments. All persons are invited to visit the LSA Mall on James Ray Blvd., (spaces 33-37) near the forum buildings at Oshkosh.

LAMA ACTIONS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

(1) President's Award - With more than 600 industry experts polled, LAMA is pleased to announce the recipient of the association's benchmark 20th Annual LAMA President's Award. The person gaining the most votes in 2011 is Jack J. Pelton, until recently the President, CEO, and Chairman of Cessna Aircraft. Jack helped bring the Skycatcher to the LSA market and gathered 1,000 orders, the largest of any Light-Sport Aircraft. LAMA is proud to give its prestigious award to what his many friends describe as, "a genuine airplane guy who likes talking flying in the hangar with other aviators." A permanent obelisk trophy in EAA's AirVenture Museum commemorates all 20 winners.

(2) Combined GAMA/LAMA Meeting - During EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2011, the two manufacturer's organizations, General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) and Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association (LAMA), will co-host a meeting of more than 30 leaders in both Light-Sport aviation and general aviation. The focus will be on leadership of the new LSA industry and sharing knowledge and experience from established general aviation figures.

(3) LAMA Europe Announced CS-LSA - "EASA, the European Aviation Safety Agency, has definitively taken a positive step from EASA, as they have officially accepted ASTM standards with the release of their Certification Specification-Light-Sport Aircraft (CS-LSA)," observed LAMA Europe leader and board member, Jan Fridrich. LAMA Europe was formally organized this year in Germany at the Aero show, where a board of directors was voted in and plans were laid to continue work with authorities to create a full self-declarative system similar to that used in the United States.

(4) LAMA Board Member Joins GA Joint Steering Committee - One of two longest-serving LAMA board members, Tom Peghiny, was invited to join the General Aviation Joint Steering Committee as a representative of LAMA and the Light-Sport Aircraft community. Peghiny is president of Flight Design USA. He is highly regarded within the LSA community. The Joint Steering Committee deals significantly with safety and Peghiny, who lead the creation of ASTM's Airplane certification standards, is an excellent choice to join this important government group.

(5) LSA Mall Continues Impressive Success - At major airshows like EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, Sun 'n Fun, and the AOPA Summit, LAMA has hosted the LSA Mall for several years. The association is pleased to announce another full-to-capacity LSA Mall at AirVenture 2011. This collection of top-selling brands is appreciated by attendees as it makes comparison easier plus helps interested pilots locate the main displays for companies they wish to examine further. The LSA Mall is located on James Ray Blvd near the forums, about 500 paces to the northeast from the main AirVenture entrance.

"LAMA is especially grateful to Aviators Hot Line/Light Aviation Edition for their support in making possible the LSA Mall," said Johnson. "We literally could not provide these LSA Mall displays without their backing."
