SUN ‘N FUN CAMPUS, LAKELAND, Fl. – (July 13, 2007) – Sun ’n Fun’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to change the dates of the 2008 Fly-In from April 8-14 to April 8-13.
“From a financial standpoint,” Eickhoff added, “Sun ’n Fun was financially responsible for services that were being underutilized during that final half-day period.”
Sun ’n Fun President and Convention Chairman John Burton said the Board’s decision is a very positive step for the event.
“Not only will it make for a shorter work week for our volunteers, but it will also let our exhibitors and volunteers know that we have listened to their comments and implemented their suggestion to eliminate the final half-day,” Burton explained. “That being said, it is critically important that we maintain the integrity of that full, final day on Sunday to ensure that our participants and guests receive the full value of their investment.”
Burton said Sun ’n Fun is looking at ways to enhance this year’s weekend activities. Last year, Sun ‘n Fun offered reduced admission for Florida residents and active duty military on both Saturday and Sunday plus a concert by country music star Aaron Tippin on Saturday night. Similar activities will be considered again in 2008. In addition, Sun ’n Fun is considering other opportunities, including a jet demonstration team and even greater participation by the military.
Sun ’n Fun, a 501(c)(3) not–for–profit organization based in Lakeland, Florida, is best known for its annual Fly–In held each April. The Fly–In is the primary source of funding for Sun ’n Fun’s expanding year–round aviation education programs. These include operation of the Florida Air Museum, the state’s “Official Aviation Museum and Education Center,” which is also supported through grants from the Division of Historical Resources and Division of Cultural Affairs, Florida Department of State. In addition, Sun ’n Fun has initiated education programs for aviation enthusiasts of all ages – especially young people – featuring valuable “hands on” learning experiences. A growing scholarship program provides financial support to ensure Sun ’n Fun’s education programs are accessible to all.
