Apollo Monsoon AS-IV Trike Introduced For General Availability

July 4, 2007 - Introducing the Monsoon weight-shift-control aircraft from Apollo North America, Inc. This is a trike designed in the USA with sports car like flying qualities, and comfort and styling in mind. Special attention has been given to make back seat comfortable for hour after hour of training for the instructor or touring flight operations. No electrical wires or tubes are generally visible on the carriage. A weight bearing floor board meets the easy (low) entry and exit points and the contoured wide cushioned seating takes off any pressure points in the seating position. ASTM compliant and ready to be S-LSAed.

Angled mast with a roomy back seat makes for an excellent training and touring platform. A tall windshield provides very effective protection against the wind. It is possible to fly simply with headsets in the front seat at 80 MPH. Tundra tires on all three wheels with main wheel hydraulic disc brakes provide the spring leaf suspension extra give and absorption. Large wheelpants with fins provide cleanliness to the Tundra tires and act to add directional stability to the flight even at triple digit speeds.

Choice of topless (quickfold ~ 12 minutes on the trike) and classic wings in Manta Ray, H-12 and Profi or Profi TL are available, each with superb handling characteristics perfectly mated to this trike. Manta Ray is being offered as the standard wing on this trike. Its quick fold and mid 50's to 60's (MPH) cruise speed, great turbulence handling due to its short 26 foot wingspan, very light pitch and roll pressures and short field landing capability will be appreciated by many. Profi and Profi TL (Topless) provide a great speed range with low (32 MPH) stall speed at extra load carrying capability of 1040 pounds with speeds reaching 100 at the high end. H12 wings provide superb smooth handling, light and balanced pressures and cruising speed near 80 MPH for a true touring machine with top speeds in the 112 MPH range.

The large airscoop on the bottom of the trike fairing routes air to the radiator. BRS or Ballistic Recovery System (full plane parachute) installation is mostly hidden inside the body with only the BRS cover visible, making it clean and tidy instead of an ugly parachute canister sticking out like a sore thumb.

Available with Rotax 582, 912UL and 912ULS engines and with night flight ready for weight-shift-control private pilot certificate holders (only available with Rotax 912 series of engines).

3-blade composite prop or a 2-blade Sensinich composite prop (optional) for the 912 series of engines with a stainless steel (4 into 1) muffler for the 912 keeps the trike quiet while providing a nice tone.
