TrickAir Skis And The Legend Cub Give Pilots A Reason To Enjoy Wintertime Flying

SULPHUR SPRINGS, TEXAS, JANUARY 6, 2009 - American Legend Aircraft Company announced today the availability of TrickAir skis for its Legend Cub. The light-sport certified Legend Cub was approved for operation on TrickAir model 1500 skis in 2007. Now, TrickAir has obtained STC approval on its skis following extensive testing. Two models are TSO'd for a variety of aircraft including TrickAir's 1500 for the original Piper J3 and PA-11. These same skis are also available for use on kit-built planes including the Texas Sport CUB.

Flying on skis provides aircraft owners the opportunity for snow and ice operations, and scenic wintertime flying. TrickAir skis, manufactured by Trick Air LLC in Weyauwega, Wisconsin, utilize a wheel penetration ski design. This allows ease of installation, in as little as fifteen minutes, as well as operation on hard surfaces without the need for removal. TrickAir skis and the Legend Cub allow avid pilots to fly every chance they get, even as snow and ice cover their favorite runways.

The classic tailwheel design of the Legend Cub lends itself intrinsically to flying with skis. With the addition of TrickAir skis, the Legend Cub can takeoff, land, and taxi on snow, ice, grass, and even hard surfaced runways, thus extending the flying season and creating more opportunity to enjoy flying for sport. American Legend was the first new light-sport aircraft manufacturer to offer skis as an option.

Pilots of the popular Legend Cub can now look forward to wintertime flying fun. With TrickAir skis, pilots can explore their local airports sugar coated in snow, nearby iced-over plains and ponds, even venture out to remote glaciers. TrickAir skis are manufactured by an established fiberglass fabricator of aircraft and other components. According TrickAir president Rick Discher, "Our model 1500 is well-suited to the Legend Cub. Its wheel penetration design allows ease of installation without lifting your airplane. It skirts the wheel and it is shaped like a wing to reduce drag." Discher continued, "The ski is a composite of materials including vinyl resin, carbon fiber, an expanded PVC core, a structural chromoly frame, and replaceable wear strips.

The ski rides one-half inch off the ground, so your airplane can be rolled on its own wheels out of the hangar." Discher has been manufacturing fiberglass components for 30 years for a wide variety of industrial and product manufacturing companies, including many in aviation. American Legend Aircraft Company manufactures the Legend Cub, a ready-to-fly certified S-LSA. Under the Texas Sport brand, Texas Sport Aircraft Company manufactures an amateur-built aircraft kit based on the design of the Legend Cub. American Legend has delivered over 160 aircraft and kits.
