Says Chip W Erwin, CZAW President
03-26-2007 - It may be one of the worst-kept secrets in the Light Sport Aircraft industry, so it’s finally time to officially announce it: Czech Aircraft Works (CZAW) is already operational in its new facility, in keeping with its plan to be one of the world’s largest LSA manufacturers.
Increaseddeliveries will undoubtedly add to increased orders, as the merits of CZAW’s amphibious Mermaid, cross-country Parrot, and roomy personal LSA, the SportCruiser, populate airports and flight schools.
“The key for any successfulmanufacturer is to have sufficient infrastructure to make a consistent, high-quality airplane,” said CZAW President, Chip Erwin, “and to prove that you’re compliant, through actual engineering analysis plus complete structural load testing to destruction and flight testing.”
CZAW,which has been delivering over 100 airplanes and kits per year from the small factory (with over 850 aircraft shipped to date), is already enhancing its market position with its three unique all-metal LSAs. “We’ve designed these airplanes for serial production,” Erwin said, “and we have skilled engineers, production, and documentation people already in place. The production ramp-up is not a ‘future claim.’ We’re doing it, right now.”
Ourcurrent expansion increases our production capacity to over 500 aircraft per year for worldwide distribution. “This new capacity also increases our efficiency. Nearly a million dollars of new state-of-the-art CNC punches and presses allows us to make perfect matched-hole technology parts which significantly reduces assembly time while simultaneously improving quality. Our LSAs have always been engineering leaders in the market,” Erwin said. “These infrastructure improvements will enable us to maintain our position as value leaders in full-size LSAs, as well.”
