Pipistrel

PipistrelFounded in 1987 as a small producer of powered hang-gliders, Pipistrel (www.pipistrel-usa.com) has grown into an influential, internationally renown company whose products set the new aviation standards on a world scale.

At the moment, Pipistrel is housed in a 5000m2 facility adjacent to the airport in Ajdovščina, Slovenia, and employs 74 people.

In the 22 years of existence we produced over 300 aircraft of the Sinus-Virus family and over 50 aircraft of the Taurus-Apis family. Together with the powered hang-gliders and other projects, this sums up to close to 1000 aircraft.

Intense investments into research, high-technology equipment and development. In 2008, Pipistrel invested 1,2 M EUR into research & development, which represented one quarter of the entire 2008 yearly turnover.

The Pipistrel Sinus and Virus were the world's first Ultralight Certified composite two-seater motorgliders. Made from the same JAR 22 long life composite materials as used in certified gliders these aircraft are economical to buy and own and simple to fly and maintain. Over 350 are now flying the skies around the world.

The clean design, low drag and superb construction make these designs some of the most economical aircraft ever made.

The Sinus, Virus, Virus SW, Taurus and Apis are now available in the LSA category and the Sinus, Virus and Virus SW are also available as a FAA 51% approved kits.

The new Sinus-Sport and Virus-Sport models have been developed specifically for the Sport Pilot category are currently shipping.
